About Us

If you knew you could do something to literally save the world, would you? We have taken on the audacious mission of doing just that. Our goal is to hunt asteroids that could hit the Earth and potentially cause human devastation.

The B612 Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit charitable organization started by a group of notable scientists, including two former NASA astronauts. Our vision is to harness the power of science and technology to protect the future of our planet, while extending our reach into the solar system. Our name was inspired by the famed children’s book by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. B612 is the asteroid home cared for by  The Little Prince.

Why Hunt Asteroids?

As they say, knowledge is power. In this case the power to protect our planet.  Unfortunately, as of today we do not currently have the knowledge to control our destiny when it comes to Near-Earth Asteroids (NEAs).

Important Facts
  1. Our solar system is a busy place. Ninety-nine percent of Near-Earth Asteroids larger than 40 meters have not been mapped. We do not know if a collision with Earth is imminent.
  2. Deflecting asteroids is technologically feasible … but only IF we have lots of warning.
  3. Asteroids that cross Earth’s orbit are the ones that can hit us. Since they spend part of their orbit closer to the Sun than Earth, the best way to spot them is from a vantage point yet closer to the Sun (i.e., from an orbit around the Sun much like Venus).

The good news is that today we can do something about this threat. We have the science, technology, and know-how to solve this problem. We’re building a space telescope called Sentinel that will orbit the Sun looking outwards to map the asteroids of the  inner solar system.  This will give us the measurements we need to know in advance of the next asteroid impact, and enable us to actually prevent it.  It sounds like science fiction, but we are deadly serious.  We’re going to hunt asteroids and we want YOU to ride along with us. After all, this telescope is designed to serve all of us!

Our Mission

To build, launch, and operate a space telescope to be placed in orbit around the Sun; to find and track threatening asteroids before they find us.

We will be the first privately funded interplanetary mission and a model and inspiration for future exploration.

The Opportunity

We are at the beginning of a new era in exploration where private organizations can now carry out grand and audacious space missions previously possible only by governments.

The Sentinel Mission will provide a unique opportunity for the public to take ownership in a historic space mission that will protect Earth, while providing the necessary roadmap for future exploration.
