2023 | Asteroid Institute | Annual Report
October 31, 2023
Asteroid Institute is one step further in the development of our Asteroid Discovery Analysis and Mapping (ADAM) platform, moving us closer to enabling the mapping of our solar system and advancing the rate of asteroid discovery.
This past year, our engineers and interns have worked on compiling a comprehensive dataset of roughly 5.3 billion point-source observations from 14 telescopes and counting. This consolidation of dispersed data is foundational for running future tools to discover new asteroids.
In this year’s report, you will learn about the launch of our first publicly available service, ADAM::Precovery — a tool that allows users the ability to discover previously missed images of an object. This work is crucial to running future asteroid discovery algorithms like the Tracklet-less Heliocentric Orbit Recovery (THOR) algorithm.
Additionally, you will read about our new Schweickart Prize program, continued sponsorship of Asteroid Day, our growing team, and the many conferences and events we participated in throughout the year.
It is thanks to our generous donors who enable us to continue our mission. Become part of our crew and donate today.
