Dr. Ed Lu in The Explorers Club: A Visual Journey Through the Past, Present, and Future of Exploration
August 25, 2023
In the upcoming book The Explorers Club: A Visual Journey Through the Past, Present, and Future of Exploration, Dr. Ed Lu and other distinguished members such as former president Teddy Roosevelt, Dr. Jane Goodall, and astronaut Buzz Aldrin, tell their inspiring stories of modern exploration.
Dr. Lu’s story begins at a unique vantage only fellow space travelers can know. During a momentary break during his spacewalk, while stationed on the International Space Station, he observed the moon and Earth, noticing the substantial number of craters on one and not the other. This experience led him to dedicate much of his career to understanding asteroid impact risk and mitigation.
Dr. Lu co-founded B612 Foundation in 2002 and now works alongside fellow astrophysicists, scientists, and engineers to develop tools to enable a map of the solar system to help prevent any future large-scale asteroid impacts. The Explorers Club awarded Dr. Lu a Discovery Expedition Grant in 2021 for his commitment to mapping and tracking asteroids through newly developed technology.
The Explorers Club: A Visual Journey Through the Past, Present, and Future of Exploration will be released on November 14, 2023. To learn more about the book, visit this website.
