Founded in 2023, the Schweickart Prize was established by the B612 Foundation to advance our ability to protect life on Earth from asteroid impacts.

The Prize recognizes graduate students for innovative ideas and emerging leadership across planetary defense—from impact prediction and mitigation to law, economics, and public communication.

Awarded annually on International Asteroid Day (June 30), the recipient receives a $10,000 grant, global recognition through a press campaign, and a museum-quality trophy featuring an authenticated meteorite, symbolizing the real-world stakes of this work.
